Setting up the communication protocol in Windows 7


Windows 7 is an obsolete Operating System not supported by Microsoft. We do not guarantee any service for Windows 7.​

  • Go to Start> Control Panel> Networks and Internet> Network and Sharing Center
  • On the left, click on Manage network connections.
  • We will see the following window:
  • Right click on the icon wireless network Connection and at the drop-down menu select Properties.
  • Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click on Properties.
  • Make sure that does not necessarily have a fixed IP in the wireless network interface. The IP will be achieved by DHCP dynamically.

Setting up Eduroam Network in Windows Vista and Windows 7

  • Go to Start> Control Panel> Networks and Internet> Center Network and Sharing> Manage wireless networks
  • Click Add
  • Select Create a profile network manually
  • Fill fields with the following data as appear in the image and click Next.
    • In network name (SSID) write: eduroam
    • In Security type and Encryption type select any of the following combinations: WPA-Enterprise / TKIP or WPA2-Entrerprise / AES (The second is safer).
  • Once the aggregate net, we must choose to change your connection settings to complete the setup.
  • Then go to the Security tab and configure as follows:
  • We chose "Protected EAP (PEAP)" and click the Settings button there right beside. We will screen the following:
  • We must ensure that the method of authentication is "Secure Password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)". To finish the settings, click the button setup ...
  • The box must be unchecked. Once this is done Finally, we accept everything and we have completed the configuration.

Connecting to Eduroam in Windows Vista and Windows 7

  • Once you configure the Network eduroam, we can only connect.
  • A message will appears on the taskbar, indicating that it must provide additional information to connect to eduroam. Click on this message and write our user name and password as shown below.
  • The first time we connect we will see a window like this:
  • It is right that this notice appears. You just give accept.
  • Then we must pay special attention to the way we enter the username (Never must use the long email address. We could not connect to eduroam.), which is composed of our own account name (the same as the short form of the e-mail) followed by @unican.es, @gestion.unican.es o @alumnos.unican.es depending on the type of user
